Additional DTLLS Course Information

The DTLLS course is delivered over 12 months and comprises face-to-face training days, 1:1 tutorials, workplace assessment, individual research, distance learning and the completion of 8 assignments.

The training days are highly interactive, face-to-face sessions. They are built around key themes that address the course content, prompt reflective practice and provide an opportunity to share good practice with others.

The course is assessed by 8 unit assignments, an ongoing reflective journal and a teaching practice portfolio. You will have to evidence 150 hours of teaching and will be observed 8 times. All coursework must be submitted to negotiated deadlines.

This course builds on the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS / 7303). To join the course you must have PTLLS or its equivalent, or undertake one concurrently.

Please click the course information bar above for an overview of the course content and the way the course is structured. The Initial Teacher Training overview diagram shows how DTLLS relates to PTLLS and CTLLS.

DTLLS is the qualification required for teachers/tutors and assessors who work in the lifelong learning sector in a ‘full teaching’ role, and leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS). On achievement of the DTLLS qualification, Professional Formation can be applied for via IfL which grants Licenced Practitioner Status.

For further information about the new teaching regulations visit Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) at www.ifl.ac.uk or look at our FAQ page.

Combining With TAQA Qualifications

TAQA (Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance) qualifications replace the old assessor and verifier qualifications (A1 and V1).  These are the recognised qualifications for assessors working with QCF qualifications and vocational competencies.

The TAQA assessor qualifications can be combined with the CTLLS and DTLLS qualifications on our integrated programme. This is a cost efficient and time saving way to achieve the full package of qualifications required (saves around £100).

Assessors who work in the regulated sector will need to achieve the appropriate teaching qualification to undertake professional formation and gain Associate Teacher Learning and Skills Status (ATLS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS).

To gain ATLS assessors must achieve the CTLLS teaching qualification. To gain QTLS assessors must achieve the DTLLS qualification.

Please refer to the CTLLS, DTLLS and TAQA tabs at the top of the screen for additional course information. The cost of the combined DTLLS and Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is £2,400 + VAT
